“She’s the one,” he said, I remember the day well.
It was a warm sunny day on the Gold Coast at the 2017 Magic Millions Sale and Bennett Racing’s Nathan Bennett had finally found the horse that would kick start his syndicating career.
The horse in question was Lot 660, a striking Foxwedge filly out of Secret Savings mare Belle Vedera, purchased in partnership with Caulfield trainer Henry Dwyer for $70,000.
Nathan attended the yearling sale, his first as a racehorse syndicator, with Shadwell Farm’s Phil Wells, and Phil’s brother Rick, both noted spotters of quality thoroughbreds.
Together, they set about finding the right horse to syndicate with the many family and friends keen to get involved with Bennett Racing.
It was always going to be the Foxwedge filly, who is now known as Goldifox.
As the evening skies started to make their presence felt on that fateful day on the Gold Coast, Nathan took one last proud look at his latest addition to the family and said, “She’s the one!”
And tomorrow we will find out if he is right, as Goldifox and the three wise men write a new chapter of a thoroughly enjoyable story.
Goldifox makes her debut at Bendigo on Wednesday 28th February 2018, in Race 2, the Bet365 2YO Maiden Plate (1000m) at 4.10pm.
Good luck to all connections!
